Grumman F9F Panther, impeller model, kit with GRP fuselage, wingspan 1090mm
Grumman F9F Panther, Impeller Model
Kit with GRP fuselage, wingspan 1090mm
The Original:
Even if it's not immediately obvious: The F9F Panther is one of the classic vintage jets. It was designed as Grumman's first jet aircraft starting in 1945. The Panther followed in the footsteps of famous "cats" like the Hellcat and Bearcat. Its maiden flight was in November 1947. The F9F saw its baptism of fire in the Korean War, where it primarily served as a ground attack fighter. Its adversary at the time was the classic Soviet MiG 15. Since the Panther could operate from both land bases and ships, it was flown by both the US Navy and the Marines. Typical features of the Panther F9F include a round fuselage cross-section, the flowing lines of the jet, and its unswept wings with very elegant-looking tip tanks at the wingtips.
The Model:
The revised version of the popular impeller model features a new construction and propulsion concept.
The Panther has a white-colored GRP fuselage, while the wings and tailplane are built using a ribbed construction and planked with plywood to ensure the necessary strength and high surface quality.
The construction of the wings and tailplane is carried out on the typical jig for aero-naut models, making the build quick and straightforward. The detailed building instructions show and describe each construction step, leaving no questions unanswered. Nevertheless, experience with fast RC models is required for building and especially flying the Panther.
The wings are plug-in, but due to the compact dimensions of the model, they can also be permanently glued to the fuselage.
The Grumman F9F Panther model is a compact jet model for electric impeller propulsion. It is designed for the WeMoTec Mini-Fan evo, an impeller with a diameter of 69 mm. With an appropriate choice of propulsion, a thrust-to-weight ratio of almost 1:1 is possible.
The intake ducts are made of GRP and are already installed in the fuselage; they only need to be connected to the impeller used.
Although no landing gear is required for take-off and landing, the installation of retractable landing gear would be possible at your discretion. However, launching with a bungee cord delivers excellent results.
There are many original templates for painting the model.
The kit contains:
- GRP fuselage and GRP tail fin
- GRP tip tanks
- Laser-cut parts for wing and tailplane construction
- Mounting parts adapted for 69mm impellers
- Thermoformed parts for cockpit interior
- RC installation aids (battery slide, etc.)
