Wooden kit Lilienthal Glider of 1895 Simprop # 0253308

The Lilienthal glider is a glider developed by Otto Lilienthal in 1893, which is controlled by weight shift. Lilienthal himself completed over a thousand glides with it, mainly from the Fliegeberg in Lichterfelde near Berlin. The Lilienthal glider is the first aircraft in history to be mass-produced and marketed as a product. It was offered by Maschinenfabrik Otto Lilienthal for 500 marks from 1894 to 1896. A sales advertisement from 1895 has been preserved.

  • Wooden kit of a glider by the famous Lilienthal brothers
  • Wingspan approx. 250mm
  • laser-cut plywood parts
  • high fitting accuracy due to precise interlocking
  • short construction time: approx. 2.5 hours including bracing
  • Display stand for the model
  • German instructions with pictures of the construction steps

The brothers Gustav (1849 - 1933) and Otto Lilienthal (1848 - 1896) already dreamed of flying like birds when they were students at the gymnasium in their hometown of Anklam. They intensively studied bird flight and carried out many flight tests
and experiments.
Otto Lilienthal intensively studied the effects of different wing profiles, systematically measured and documented them, and tested their different properties in practical flight tests. It is estimated that he made a total of over 2000 flights
carried out.
The model offered here is a replica of a biplane from 1895. It is the two-winged further development of the well-known normal gliders.
