Our STABLE 2.1 RACE RAST sets new standards in all flight areas of a hybrid paraglider. Especially the excellent launch, flight, and glide characteristics when flying fast or slow demonstrate the full performance level. It can be flown very sportily, but it also enjoys very slow cruising – always with a high safety reserve.

Good control characteristics and high agility were also very important to us. This allows for excellent circling in weaker and very tight thermals.

A brief history of development: Even during my full-scale flying days, I was always fascinated by RAST® wings from the company Swing. Herry Hoffner, a pioneer of RC paragliding from the very beginning, started gaining his first experiences with self-built RC paragliders several years ago. Herry provided us with his design, the "Olympic," along with his findings. This wing did not have RAST® valves, but it served as the cornerstone for our development of the STABLE. The first step, however, was to contact Swing to exclusively integrate their patented RAST® system into our RC sport paragliders. With the contractual approval for the use of RAST® and the "Olympic" as a basis, we began our exciting further development of Hybrid-RAST® RC sport paragliders with high aspect ratio and a low number of single-skin cells.

The goal was to develop a hybrid wing that is always good-natured and easy to fly during launch and in various flight phases, that "marches" well in the normal flight phase, and whose glide performance does not significantly decrease when accelerated. It should also exhibit good and stable handling in the thermal position, in the range of the lowest sink rate. We also definitely wanted to keep the number of open, i.e., single-skin cells, as low as possible to achieve maximum glide performance.

To meet these requirements, it was necessary to perform countless iterations of flow simulations of the canopy. The result is a profile shape with 4 to 6 different profiles in the spanwise direction, depending on the wing. We achieve a perfectly tensioned leading edge, which also simplifies launching, by using Nitinol, a dimensionally stable nickel-titanium alloy with memory effect. This was a great challenge, as we have very thin profiles with tight leading edge radii. The classic pocket for nylon rods cannot be adopted one-to-one for this. The latest generation of Edelrid Magix Pro Dry is used for the lines on our wings.

The heart of RAST® wings, the RAST® valve, offers many advantages in flight, but represents a high effort during the development phase and in prototype construction. RAST® paragliders require a larger number of prototypes compared to conventional wings. This is because the overall design and also the stress distribution are mainly related to the RAST® valve. Many things can be changed on a conventional prototype without RAST® afterwards. If something is wrong with the RAST®, it cannot be intervened because it is installed inside the cell, and a completely new prototype must be built.

Ultimately, only the elliptical shape remained from the Olympic. We calculated new profiles and created a modern profile shape in flow simulation, integrated RAST valves, and adapted the RAST for better effect. Above all, we changed the wing tension. The rods were all designed with the modern Nitinol system, a nickel-titanium alloy with shape memory. The internal structure was designed for lightweight construction. In many test series, we determined the optimal line lengths and angles of attack for the different sections.
