Do you think you could fly with such a thing? No? Then you belong to the younger generation. Ask a "seasoned" gentleman of about 60 years old. He might tell you, with shining eyes, about the beautiful, original flying on the slope, where every launch was a team effort with the loudly shouted command to the crew on the bungee launch rope:
Pull - - Run - - Go!!
And after a half-minute hop, the aircraft had to be dragged back up the slope by everyone!
The SG-38 was designed for slope and winch launching. The designers Schneider, Rehberg, and Hofmann had developed an aircraft suitable for self-construction in flying clubs. Well-known school gliders like "Hol's der Teufel" (Devil Take It), "Zögling" (Pupil), or "Schädelspalter" (Skull Splitter) served as inspiration.
The model was consistently designed to original documents in 1:4 scale. Of course, the wooden construction was maintained. For the installation of the remote control, the lower part of the fuselage was widened by a few millimeters. All other dimensions correspond to the original.
The model kit contains all the materials required for construction, such as a large blueprint, detailed building instructions with perspective drawings, punched balsa and plywood parts, all fittings, pulleys and cables, but not the pilot doll, covering material, paint, or adhesives.
