The SHK glider model is a further development of the Standard Austria, designed in 1958 by Ing. Rüdiger Kunz. In 1965, the Standard Austria was revised by Klaus Holighaus at Schempp-Hirth, Kirchheim (S-H-K). The wingspan was increased from 15 to 17 m and the SHK received retractable landing gear. The SHK-67s built from 1967 onwards had a jettisonable brake parachute in the rear fuselage.

The model, at a scale of 1:4.25, was based on the SHK with factory number 27, registration D-5445, which was temporarily stationed at the Übersberg gliding airfield near Reutlingen.

The model, with a wingspan of 4000 mm, was created with the help of plans from Schempp-Hirth. The GRP fuselage has molded fuselage-wing transitions and a canopy frame guide. The tail section is removable - providing access to the mounting and control of the all-moving tailplane. The plastic cockpit parts are included in the kit. The wing attachment consists of a 12 mm diameter round steel rod guided in a brass tube; a wing securing device is included. A modified Selig S 4233 profile was chosen as the root airfoil, modified in two steps along the entire wingspan. In addition, the wing was given geometric washout. This design ensures excellent flight characteristics, especially when circling, i.e. in thermal flight. The model's flight characteristics are balanced, ideal for thermal soaring and not overly harsh wind conditions on the slope.

A retractable landing gear or a tow release can be installed at your discretion.

With this model, the wings and tail units are built entirely from wood in a ribbed construction. All parts are laser-cut and are precisely built step-by-step with the help of the proven aero-naut jig. The rib surfaces are also planked with high-quality Abachi veneer, which has been precisely laser-cut and only needs to be neatly glued on. The planking has been bonded with a specially developed textile fiber to improve elasticity.
