The Original:
The Sopwith Pup was a single-seat British biplane, used as a fighter aircraft in World War I. The Pup was built by the Sopwith Aviation Company and originated from the personal aircraft of Sopwith's chief pilot.
The Sopwith Pup was a very agile fighter, very pleasant and easy to fly. Its large wings gave it a good climb rate and maneuverability, especially at high altitudes. Although it had a weaker engine compared to the Albatros D.III, James McCudden reported that it could fly two circles in the time the Albatros needed for only one. Manfred von Richthofen praised the Sopwith Pup for its maneuverability, but criticized its lack of dive performance. A total of 1770 Sopwith Pup aircraft were built.
The Model:
After our successful and now world-renowned 1:10 semi-scale models Piperle and Tiger Moth, Ralf Grüner (Grüner-CNC) felt it was time to set a new "benchmark" in terms of manufacturing quality, fit accuracy, building instructions, and blueprint with the Sopwith Pup. Let yourself be inspired by the kit of our new Sopwith. All wooden parts precisely cut, wheels for self-assembly, detailed, illustrated, multi-color building instructions with control surface deflection sizes, multi-color blueprint, parts list, laser-numbered components – everything we've ever wished for, Grüner has realized with the Sopwith Pup. And to top it all off, there is an optional 9-cylinder radial engine dummy made from 225 (!) laser-cut individual parts. Are we detail-oriented? YES!
Important Note: The construction of this model is not completed "in a few evenings"! We made this model especially for those who enjoy building and who cannot be satisfied with a Climaxx or a Big Easy. "You'll be done with it in 3 evenings" (original quote from a customer).
