The Curtiss P-40 Warhawk is a single-seat fighter and ground attack aircraft that first flew in 1938. It was used by many nations around the world, but primarily by the USA, and a total of over 13,000 units were built by 1944. During World War II, the P-40 Warhawk played an important role, particularly in North Africa, the Southwest Pacific, and China, where it was used as an air superiority fighter and for escorting bombers. The model shown here bears the livery of the "Flying Tigers," a mercenary group of former American pilots in the Chinese air force fighting against Japan.
